4 Reasons to Sleep on a Satin Pillowcase

Posted by Lulu Beauty Co. on

It’s been years since Madonna taught us that “satin sheets are very romantic”, but they’re so much more than that! Satin fabric’s fine weave can be beneficial for hair and skin. Even if you’re not ready to give up your comfy cotton sheets, you can still get the benefit of satin by just swapping out your pillowcases. Our beauty experts made the switch, and they’re never going back! Check out their four reasons to sleep on a satin pillowcase.

  1. If you love your lashes…get a satin pillowcase.

Side sleepers will definitely benefit from a pillowcase swap. When you sleep on your side, your eyelashes rub against the fabric of your pillowcase. A cotton pillowcase usually has a rougher texture (even high thread count varieties) than satin, and as your lashes pass over cotton they can get caught or encounter resistance from the fabric. This leads to breakage or bent lashes. With a smooth satin pillowcase, they’ll be able to glide over the fabric and you won’t have to worry that you’re damaging your lovely lashes.

  1. Cotton wicks moisture away from everything.

We all go to so much trouble to moisturize our skin and hair only to have our pillowcase spend eight hours a night wicking it away! Cotton is a highly absorbent material, which is great for towels andhair turbans, but not so much for your pillowcase. All that drying can take its toll on your hair and skin, leading to flyaways and dryness. Swap your pillowcase for satin to avoid waking up with a head full of frizzy locks.

  1. A cotton pillowcase messes with your ‘do.

Similar to the way that your eye lashes get caught in cotton and meet some resistance against it, so does the hair on your head. If you’ve gone to all the trouble to straighten your hair and it’s looking pristine and smooth enough to rock for another day, don’t sleep on cotton. The fabric will wreak havoc on your style for eight hours, and you’ll wake up with frizz, kinks, and flyaways. IMPORTANT- If you have hair extensions, this point is crucial! You spend a pretty penny on those extensions and cotton will do you no favors when it comes to maintaining those $$$ locks of precious hair. Satin is your answer here; it’ll keep your smooth style looking flawless.

  1. Sleep lines. Need we say more?

Don’t spend the first 30 minutes of your day walking around with sleep lines on your face. Cotton pillowcases rub and bunch against your face all night, which leads to drying. The drier your skin gets, the less it can slip past the cotton, and the pillowcase starts to bunch and wrinkle under the weight of your head. That means in the morning you’ve got sleep lines. Satin stays smooth all night…and so will your skin.
